Acharya Visits

We are delighted to have had Acharya Emily Bower in Northern California recently.
Acharya Emily Bower started practicing in the Shambhala community in 1987, the year that Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche passed away. She met Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche in 1991, when he came to teach in Berkeley, California, where she was living at the time. She became his student then and has served as his editor for various projects including his first book, Turning the Mind into an Ally.
From 2000 through 2010, she worked as an acquiring editor at Shambhala Publications before retiring to serve more fully as an acharya and to go on retreat. She is a lifelong member of the Dorje Kasung and has studied kyudo with Kanjuro Shibata Sensei Currently, she travels and teaches - with no fixed address for the time being.
Acharya Bower led Practicing Stillness, Enjoying Life, a winter weekthun in San Francisco December 26th through January 1st, and a concurrent New Year's Weekend Meditation Intensive December 30th through January 1st. She also offered Refuge Vows and Boddhisattva Vows, and gave a public talk January 4th as part of Wednesday Dharma Night at the San Francisco Shambhala Center.
