ABOUT SAKYONG MIPHAM RINPOCHE

The Sakyong, Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche, is one of today's most respected spiritual masters and leaders. Born in Bodhgaya, India, the Sakyong was raised in both the East and the West.

The Sakyong is the son and dharma heir of the Vidyadhara, the Venerable Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Educated in the United States and England, he received spiritual training from his father and trained extensively in Asia with many of the great meditation masters of the 20th century. His unique multicultural background enables him to present the riches of the East's contemplative traditions in a modern Western context.

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche is the head of the Shambhala Buddhist lineage, a tradition that emphasizes the basic goodness of all beings and teaches the art of courageous warriorship based on wisdom and compassion.

The Sakyong, or "Earth Protector," is the spiritual leader of Shambhala, a global community of meditation practitioners committed to realizing the inherent goodness in humanity. Planet Magazine has called him a "global visionary." The Sakyong descends from the Tibetan warrior-king Gesar of Ling, who is considered to be the incarnation of Mipham the Great, revered in Tibet as an emanation of Manjushri, the buddha of wisdom. He holds the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism.

He is the author of two books, Turning the Mind into an Ally and Ruling Your World - Ancient Strategies for Modern Life. A third, Running with the Mind of Meditation: Lessons for Training the Body and the Mind will be published in April 2012.
